Kung Fu Word Month: Power

Power

Week 1

“Power tires those who do not have it.”
Giulio Andreotti, 20th-century Italian politician

Translation for Adults:

Martial arts training has helped you to be fit of body as
well as mind and spirit. You’ve learned with experience
that a vigorous martial arts class doesn’t tire you and
drain your power, but actually increases your power
and stamina, while sharpening your mind and renewing
your confidence. Martial arts training “tires those
who do not have it” because they can’t seem to make
the same commitment you have—and that’s the real
power of martial arts!

Translation for Children:

Probably one of the first times you really felt powerful
was when you made the commitment to martial arts—
it must have been a great feeling. Even though you
may have thought martial arts would make you tired,
you quickly discovered that it gives you new powers:
now you have better control of your body; you walk
with more balance; and you have more energy. You
also have more control of your thinking, and increased
your confidence. Now, you have the power to make
new commitments, face new challenges and become a
better person.

Class Discussion for Children
1. Did you often feel tired after school before you
started martial arts? Did you feel like you had no
energy? Did you just lie around, watch TV or play
video games?
2. Do you feel like you have much more energy now?
Are you able to do other fun activities?
3. Name two ways martial arts has given you more
power and energy. Does that make you feel better?
